Lights embroideries for Dior
by Francesca Romana Buffetti
Respect and kindness are two words that often recur in the flow of conversation with Marinella Senatore, whose artistic
practice, marked by public involvement, has always been articulated through performances, paintings, collages, installations, videos and photographs.
The artist is only the latest in order of time to which Maria Grazia Chiuri, the Creative Director of Dior since 2016, turned to: the collective of Claire Fontaine, Judy Chicago, Penny Slinger, Tomaso Bringa are just some of the many women with whom the designer has collaborated over the years to set up her fashion shows, Haute Couture and prêt-à-porter.
«On the part of the Maison – explains Marinella Senatore – there has always been a great interest in combining fashion with art. Maria Grazia Chiuri, for her part, is close to those who advocate feminist issues».
No wonder, then, that on the occasion of the 2021 Cruise set up in Piazza del Duomo in Lecce the artist from Cave dei Tirreni was called. For more than 15 years she has been creating works capable of involving entire communities around social matters and issues such as emancipation and equality.
